Love Letters Straight from Your Heart
This astonishing performance piece from Bristol-based company Uninvited Guests was wreathed in praise at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe, but no London transfer was forthcoming. It finally comes to the capital in February 2012 for a two-week stint that, appropriately enough, culminates in a Valentine's Day performance. In it, the audience are invited to a banquet, hosted by performers Jess Hoffmann and Richard Dufty. What actually happens - or at least, how incredibly effective it is - is hard to describe, but in essence Hoffman and Dufty sequence and stylize a series of anonymous dedications to loved ones - the living, the dead, the missed - into a conflagration of emotion that inevitably reduces the room to tears. If anything else in 2012 is half as moving, it'll be a very good year.
