Sea beaches are one of the most
shot after destinations for a relaxing holiday. But only few beaches enjoy the
position of being special and interesting. One such place is Chandipur beach in
Orissa state in India. Though it is not among the most popular tourism beaches
of India, but certainly it stands out in the crowd for the beach lovers.
Have you seen the sea disappear
in front of your eyes? A unique phenomenon rarely seen anywhere else, the sea
recedes by as much as five kilometres every day on the Chandipur beach in
eastern India, not just enchanting the onlooker but also offering an
opportunity to literally walk into the sea.
Where is it :- Chandipur is a small sea beach in
Balasore District, Orissa, India.
It’s almost like magical . If you spend a whole day on this lovely beach
you can easily distinguish this beach
from the other beaches.
As the day progresses, sea water
recedes about 5 kms during low tide and advances to the shore line again during
high tide in the evening. Elsewhere, the waves dash on the shore shouting
madly, but here they are like a musical fountain, soothing to the ears.
Elsewhere, the waters wait for the visitors but here the visitors have to wait
for the waters. Elsewhere, the waves go wild and the visitors calm but here the
ecstasy of tourists on touring orissa will go wild while the waves remain calm.
Chasing the waves when the sea
retreat is an unforgettable experience. Once the sea retreats back into the
horizon, the exposed seabed, littered with red starfishes and drift woods that
make for souvenirs also, is open to all for walks and jeep rides. If you are a
beachcomber then go gathering abandoned seashells , I am so sure you will get
some finest pieces to gift to your loved ones.
Swaying casuarinas, sand dunes
and the vast open beach makes Chandipur one of the finest and less explored
beaches in India, a compelling destination. The nearby small fishing harbour
(Balaramgadi) ensures the availability of good sea foods at the hotels at the
beach. A new restaurant named MegaBites offers tasty Italian and Indian foods.
Away from the crowd and cacophony albeit with very good connectivity (Roads and
railway) this place should be savoured before many people explore this.Once the
sea is back to its resting spot, you can go swimming and build sand castles and
wait for the sea to head for another round of hide and seek.

Some people would be afraid of the sea receding a few kilometers, owing to Tsunamis. It is indeed very beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
